Laurie Rompala
Laurie serves as attorney, investigator and employment advisor for Waveland Law Group. She represents and advises businesses in policy and compliance matters, human resources and employment practices, contract and risk management issues, and employee legal issues, including terminations and claims before administrative agencies. Laurie conducts independent workplace investigations and provides training and consulting services. She advises and counsels employers on policies, leave-related issues, wage and compensation matters, employee relations, EEO/AAP, FLSA, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, Title IX, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, disciplinary matters, whistle-blower complaints, workplace violence, safety, other internal policy violations, and diversity and inclusion issues. Laurie has also advised and counseled clients regarding COVID-19, WARN Act, multi-site reductions in force, as well as voluntary early retirement programs.
Prior Experience
Laurie has worked with clients on a broad range of employment and business matters. She has also served in chief roles at AmLaw100 and 200 law firms and has reorganized and led departments responsible for all areas of talent, human resources, diversity, compliance, and other initiatives impacting owners, professionals, and staff members. As chief people officer, and as an in-house counsel, Laurie has been a strategic business partner in addressing sensitive risk management, cultural, contractual, and compliance concerns. She has also represented clients in coverage, employment, commercial disputes, and professional liability litigation.
Laurie’s experience and training inform her thoughtful and results-oriented approach to her clients’ business needs. She began her career as individual contributor in mission-driven organizations, and she has continued to serve as a volunteer, mentor, coach, and leader. Laurie’s direct, curious, and empathetic communication style allow her to identify stakeholder needs and develop trust with people at all levels within an organization. Her unique background allows her to work closely with her clients to understand their business objectives and financial drivers, help balance risk and human considerations, and effectively achieve their goals.
Education
Laurie has trained and been certified as a Civil Rights Investigator (ATIXA), Mediator (CCR) and Coach (NALP). Laurie is a member of the General and Trial Bars of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
